Below you will find information on print papers and mounting substrates; there are a wide variety of print papers and mounts available, and details are provided below for the most popular types. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you are unsure of what to order; part of the service I provide is to ensure that all aspects of your print product works well with the environment in which it is displayed.

Paper Surfaces:

Whether you choose a matte or glossy paper is up to you, but matte papers tend to look better in environments with lots of windows or reflections, while night images often look best presented on a glossy surface (assuming you have good lighting).

Mounting:

There are so many ready-to-hang mounting options available today that I rarely suggest framing, which in large sizes can be difficult to ship and heavy to hang on the wall; these options are much less likely to be damaged if they should fall off the wall for some reason. That being said, I have a wide variety of options available for clients wanting a framed print.

Modern Standout Mounts and Metal Prints are easy to hang, relatively lightweight, and look great in most any environment. They are quite cost-competitive compared to framed prints, and require less care to maintain their appearance. There are a variety of papers and surfaces to complement any lighting environment.

A very elegant mid-priced option, High Definition Prints use Fujiflex silver halide paper and print at up to 610dpi resolution (that’s roughly twice as detailed as a standard print!). The print is mounted on an aluminum composite substrate and covered with a thick laminate that adds luminosity, and is then attached to the wall using a 3/4″ metal inset frame with french cleat. I highly recommend this print process, especially for high-resolution source images that need to be reduced in size to fit a particular space, and especially for prints that can be viewed at a close distance.

Face-mounted Acrylic Prints are considered the high-end alternative for environments that require the best presentation, and look exemplary under good lighting. Both glossy and non-glare acrylic surfaces are available (depending on your room conditions), and can be hung using posts or a bonded backing with cleat hangar.

For prints that are being customized to a specific and/or confined space in your home (like a nook or picture alcove), there are several options (matte board, Styrene, etc.) that can be cut-to-size, and look seamless mounted flat on the wall.
