Odd weather conditions did not cooperate for this morning’s attempt to get Comet Neowise rising over the Denver skyline. After a super-hot day, overnight a thunderstorm complex developed over the eastern plains, and apparently left behind some low-level moisture in the atmosphere (likely in addition to smog). This thunderstorm out near Yuma, CO actually made the next morning’s news, as at around 0300 hours the temperature in Yuma rose 18 degrees (from 70 to 88!) over the course of an hour or so. It took around 25 minutes for the comet to rise out of the murk, as dawn approached.
